The College Football landscape is at the end of the first quarter of the season as it moves into the final weekend of September. Last week there wasn't that many upsets but #19 Indiana Hoosiers was very impressive with a dominant performance beating #9 Illinois by score of 63-10.
Oklahoma escaped with a 24-17 win at home against the Auburn Tigers. Miami Hurricanes beat their arch-rival The Florida Gators by score of 26-7 but the final score is misleading because Miami Hurricanes led by score of 13-0 at halftime but the Gators cut the lead to 13-7 which would be the score for the majority of second half until Miami finally got an offensive drive going to score a touchdown run by Running Back Charmar Brown.
Then Running Back Mark Fletcher Jr scored a touchdown run to increase the lead to 26-7. The Miami Hurricanes defense held the Florida Gators offense to 141 yards of offense. Moving forward this weekend of the slate of games in college football is very intriguing featuring the game of the week featuring Penn State hosting Oregon where both teams are ranked in the top 10. This matchup is a true test for Penn State see what happens with the team's response. Then #17 Alabama plays at #5 Georgia keep eyes on this matchup. #4 LSU plays on the road against #13 Ole Miss. #21 USC plays at #23 Illinois. #22 Notre Dame faces the road test at Arkansas. Penn State will beat Oregon, Alabama over Georgia, LSU beats Ole Miss, USC over Illinois and Notre Dame over Arkansas.
NFL Overview:
Moving forward to the NFL season which was a wild and wacky week where there were special teams touchdowns, defensive touchdowns including blocked field goal attempts. Rams vs Eagles was a matchup that should have been won after they led by score of 26-7. But Quarterback Jalen Hurts of Philadelphia Eagles led the charge with the 3 touchdown passes. But the Rams had a golden opportunity to win on a field goal attempt but it was blocked and Jordan Davis returned it for 61 yard touchdown.
The Eagles remain unbeaten at 3-0. The Minnesota Vikings played at home against the Cincinnati Bengals and made history with Cornerback Isaiah Rodgers scoring 2 defensive touchdowns including forcing 2 fumble which made Rodgers the NFL player to accomplish this feat. The Vikings won 48-10. In the Seattle Seahawks matchup against the New Orleans Saints, Tony Horton returned a punt for 95 yards which was a franchise record for the Seattle Seahawks.
Moving forward to the slate of games in the NFL keep eyes on Ravens vs Chiefs. The Ravens are coming off a loss to the Detroit Lions who won 38-30. The Lions ran for 224 yards and the Ravens rushing attack only had 85 yards plus Quarterback Lamar Jackson of Baltimore Ravens got sacked 7 times. The Chiefs have a win under their belt so both teams are 1-2 so something gots to give.
The Eagles vs Buccaneers matchup is a battle of unbeaten. The Vikings play against the Pittsburgh Steelers then there is the New York Giants play at home against the Los Angeles Chargers where Rookie Quarterback Jaxson Dart will be making his career start. Finally the Micah Parsons Bowl will take place when the Green Bay Packers play on the road against the Dallas Cowboys where Parsons will be facing his former team. The Ravens over Chiefs, Eagles over Buccaneers, Steelers over Vikings and the Packers over Cowboys.
MLB Overview:
In Baseball news the regular season will be coming to a close and what stands out is the New York Yankees have a chance to win the American League East division but overall they clinched a playoff berth after beating the Chicago White Sox 3-2 on Tuesday. The Seattle Mariners won the American League West for the first time in 24 years. The Cleveland Guardians are neck and neck with the Detroit Tigers for the division. The Mets have a shot to win a wild card playoff berth. Catcher Cal Raleigh hit his 60th home run for the Seattle Mariners this past week against the Colorado Rockies.
