*SPOILERS AHEAD

Episode two wastes no time pulling us deeper into the eerie, almost fairytale-like vibe of this new Spain setting. And honestly—why Spain? It feels intentional. The writers are leaning into the Old World atmosphere, the gothic architecture, and the sense that history is haunting every step Daryl and Carol take. France gave us resistance fighters and bizarre science labs; Spain is shaping up to be about tradition, control, and secrets wrapped in ritual.

Of course, Daryl is still out here doing what Daryl does best: slinging that crossbow like it’s an extension of his arm. Even surrounded by new enemies and new rules, the way he handles walkers (and humans) with that weapon reminds us that no matter where he is, he’s still our guy.

The big reveal in this episode is the unsettling ritual: the community’s leader, Guillermo, arrives once a year to choose a young woman to take away. It’s creepy, it’s cultish, and it immediately puts Daryl and Carol on edge. We’re left questioning—is this a deal made for survival? Is it tradition? Or something even darker?

Carol, in typical Carol fashion, doesn’t bite her tongue. She asks why the girls are taken, and you can feel the room tighten around her. Her instincts are spot on, though—it’s too much like the Terminus days or the Kingdom’s sacrifices. Carol knows that when people start disappearing, there’s usually a bloody truth waiting underneath.

Which leads us to the big question: is this new community, named Solaz del MAr, a place Daryl and Carol should even consider staying? On the surface, it’s safe, structured, and thriving in ways they haven’t seen in years. But the price of safety might be too high. Daryl and Carol have seen enough to know that every sanctuary has a shadow.

And this episode is already laying the foundation for episode three. The annual “selection” isn’t just background lore—it’s going to explode into a full storyline. You can feel it. Episode two plants the seeds of rebellion, suspicion, and a test of Daryl and Carol’s moral compass. By the time episode three rolls around, this ritual is going to force choices, and maybe even fracture alliances. This episode deserves a solid B for it's tension and mystery alone.
